Online scams & cybercrimes
Online scams, unauthorized bank and e-wallet transfers, hacked accounts, online harassment and other cybercrimes.
Scams and other crimes committed online move fast, and the money and the evidence can disappear within hours. We assist victims in reporting, in asking their bank or e-wallet to act, and in filing complaints, and we represent persons accused of cybercrimes.
How we can help
- Online selling, investment and loan scams
- Unauthorized transfers from bank or e-wallet accounts, phishing and account takeover (R.A. 12010, Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act)
- Asking the bank or e-wallet to hold the disputed funds (up to 30 days under R.A. 12010, unless a court extends it)
- Hacked accounts and identity theft (R.A. 10175, Cybercrime Prevention Act)
- Online libel, threats and harassment: complaints and defense
- Recording or sharing intimate photos or videos of a person (R.A. 9995, Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act)
- Defense of persons accused of a cybercrime or of acting as a money mule
How it usually proceeds
- Act at once. Report the transaction to your bank or e-wallet right away and ask that the funds be held. The government's anti-scam hotline is 1326.
- Keep the evidence. Save screenshots, links, account names and numbers, reference numbers and the whole chat. Do not delete the conversation.
- Report and complaint. A report may be made to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, the NBI Cybercrime Division or the CICC. A complaint-affidavit may then be filed with the prosecutor's office, directly or through the PNP or the NBI.
- Case and recovery. If the prosecutor finds enough evidence, the case is filed in court, where the victim may also ask for the return of the money and for damages.
What to bring
- Screenshots of the chats, posts or messages
- Links, usernames, account names and numbers used by the other person
- Bank or e-wallet transaction history and reference numbers
- Any report already made to the bank, e-wallet, 1326, police or NBI, with its reference number
- Your valid ID
- Your phone or device, if the evidence is stored there
